Why Chia Seeds?

Chia seeds have twice the amount of  proteins of any other seed, about five  times the calcium of whole milk, plus a particular mineral called boron, that helps the absorption of calcium in the bones.

If this is not enough Chia seeds have a great  amount of potassium twice the amount present in a banana  and three times more antioxidants than cranberries, and even more iron than spinach. They are rich in Omega 3 essential fatty acids and also contain magnesium, manganese, copper, niacin, zinc and other vitamins.

Does it seem a lot to you’ No wonder they are so popular now!

They are a complete source of proteins, providing all the essential amino acids in an easily digestible form and are also a fabulous source of soluble fiber; the seeds absorb water (9 to 12 times their weight in water) and create a mucilaginous gel.

Chia seeds have so many properties, it is almost hard to remember them all; they can help you fight physical fatigue and give you extra energy, they are what we call super foods!

The Seeds are extremely versatile and can be easily added to sweet or salty recipes.

I love Chia seeds and eat them on their own. or mixed with raisins. I know you can use them as part of a smoothie, but I never knew I could use them as part of a cookie recipe. I might give that a try, and it contains pumpkin seeds and sunflower. Sometimes I eat those too, but I mainly have Chia seeds as my source of seeds.

    Hi Barbara,

It’s a great pity…I have tried several time to be vegan, but my skin breaks out in eczema each time I do it.    It means I am not absorbing enough protein from the nuts, seeds and sprouted beans I eat.  I sprout my own lentils, beans and also seeds, yet my skin always breaks out out in ultra dry skin even with 2 avocados in green smoothies daily.

So I eat salmon and also chicken wings to repair my skin tissue each time.  It is a great pity as I have many books on raw veganism and also cooked veganism.

Well done Barbara for succeeding at being vegan.  You set a great example for us all!

Hi Stella, thank you for your comment and I am sorry you get these problems every time you stop eating meat. It is strange as there are so many proteins in lentils or tofu or legumes and nuts. Have you ever considered asking a nutritionist or even your doctor about it?  Still, I thank you very much for your kind words.
